SYNERGY® HomeCare Expands Into North Carolina’s Third-largest City

April 10, 2025 // Franchising.com // Tempe, Ariz. – SYNERGY® HomeCare has announced its first location-based in Greensboro, North Carolina, SYNERGY HomeCare of North Guilford County.

The company is owned and operated by Samer Harbawi, a nurse with over ten years of experience, a former pharmaceutical representative, and an MBA graduate who now joins the home care industry after settling down in the Tar Heel state.

The company assists the city’s residents with a wide variety of non-medical, in-home care services, from companion care to personal care and respite care.

In Samer’s decade-plus of nursing experience, he frequently noticed the growing need for these services, particularly among Baby Boomers. U.S. Census statistics show that 10,000 Baby Boomers are turning 65 every day and that by 2030, there will be more than 70 million people over 65. According to the AARP, over 80% of this demographic reports wanting to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. With more older adults than children in 86% of North Carolina counties, these trends are particularly relevant in the Tar Heel state.

As a registered nurse, helping others has been a cornerstone of Samer’s day-to-day life for more than ten years. In that time, his work has provided him with hands-on experience in healthcare facilities across the country, from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City to Dallas, and now to Greensboro. Samer has worked in some of the most hectic healthcare environments imaginable, while not only maintaining a level head under pressure but still looking to do more for whatever community he found himself in. Eventually, after spending the past two years working in Cone Hospitals in North Carolina, he knew these were the communities that he wanted to help long-term.

Business ownership had always been a personal dream of Samer’s, hence his decision to obtain an MBA alongside his nursing degree. However, he never expected to be the owner of a home care business until going through a deeply personal experience. During the pandemic, Samer’s father’s health quickly deteriorated, and he unfortunately passed away due to a lack of knowledge and availability of support services. This experience made Samer take it upon himself to be an around-the-clock source of support for any other family who may be in a similar situation.

“Joining the home care industry is an extremely personal decision that means so much to me,” said Samer. “I’ve seen so many families, including my own, in desperate need of a service that could reduce their burden and provide care that could completely alter the course of their loved ones’ lives. I believe that showing kindness to the vulnerable is one of the greatest rewards in life, and I promise to provide the same level of care that I would want for my own family.”

Currently, one in every five North Carolinians is 65 years of age or older. Many of these residents need to rely on caregivers for additional assistance cooking, shopping, running errands, doing light housekeeping or going for walks. Some even require personal care, such as help with bathing, dressing or using the toilet.

“With age comes a plethora of complications,” said Samer. “Fortunately, my experience in health care has equipped me with the tools I need to identify and address many of these obstacles. For anyone who comes to us for help, they can feel safe knowing that they will receive educated, personalized, and dedicated care.”
