As they celebrate 8 years in business, Haider and Mumtaz have been awarded Outstanding Business of the Year by the Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce. Upon winning the award, Minuteman Press in Beavercreek received several Certificates of Achievement from Beavercreek Township, the City of Beavercreek Mayor’s Office, the Greene County Board of Commissioners, the Ohio State House of Representatives, and the Ohio State Senate.

Haider shared the following insights on winning the award and building a successful Minuteman Press center over the past 8 years.

What does it mean to you to win Outstanding Business of the Year?

“Winning Outstanding Business of the Year in Beavercreek was an unexpected honor. As a husband-and-wife owned shop, our main focus has always been on serving the community and providing top-quality products to our customers. The recognition of our humble efforts is a clear indication that our hard work has truly made an impact. Being chosen as the recipients of this award, particularly among numerous larger and more resourceful businesses, has given us a strong sense of pride and purpose.

Being a part of the Beavercreek Chamber has played a key role in the growth of our business. We do not attend Chamber events with the goal of selling more products; instead, we go to connect with new people, learn about what’s happening in our community, and show our support for the efforts of others.”

How would you describe your community in Beavercreek? Why do you think print remains so vital to local businesses today?

“Beavercreek is a vibrant and growing community. The community is tight-knit, with everyone making an effort to support one another. Our shop is just a 10-minute drive from Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Wright State University, both of which are major landmarks in the area. In addition to these institutions, we’re surrounded by a mix of corporate and small businesses. Almost every business nearby has expressed interest in our products, from apparel to paper printing and everything in between. Print is essential for both small businesses and corporations, as it helps establish and showcase their brand identity to the public.”

What are your Top 3 keys to growing/promoting your business?

  • “Referrals: Referrals have played a major role in growing and promoting our business. We often hear from customers that they were referred to us because someone they know praised our work and highly recommended us. Customer service is our top priority, and we treat every customer with the same level of care and attention. We believe that our dedication to excellent service has directly contributed to an increase in referrals.
  • Fast Turnaround: We offer same-day services, which has played a significant role in growing our business. We make an effort to accommodate every customer and prioritize rush orders based on their needs. To support this, we’ve invested in essential equipment like our large format printer and flatbed, enabling us to fulfill same-day orders efficiently.
  • Community Involvement: We’ve been active, long-term members of the Chamber of Commerce. We also make it a priority to volunteer and give back to the community whenever possible. This involvement has allowed us to build valuable relationships, which in turn has helped promote our business.”

What are your high-demand products?

“We’ve noticed a high demand for signage products like posters, banners, yard signs, and foam boards. Recognizing this shift, we invested in a large format printer to bring these products in-house rather than outsourcing them. This has greatly improved our turnaround time and allows us to offer same-day signage for customers who need them in a hurry.”

What was your background before Minuteman Press?

“Both my wife and I earned our MBAs, and I’ve always had the dream of being my own boss and running my own business. When we learned about Minuteman Press from a close friend, we researched the company and loved everything about it. I’m a very hands-on person, and my wife is creative, so we felt this business was a perfect match for our skills.”

What has the support been like for you over the years?

“Our Regional VP Gary Nowak has been an invaluable resource to us from the very beginning. He has guided us through tough decisions and is always just a phone call away whenever we need advice. In addition, our Field Rep Ryan McIntyre has also been consistently friendly and helpful during his visits to our shop.”

What are the rewards of owning your business?

“Owning your own business offers many benefits, like the freedom to set your own schedule and greater control over how you spend your time. Achieving the goals and milestones you set for yourself brings a sense of pride and fulfillment.”

What advice do you have for others?

“There are no shortcuts when it comes to being an honest and hardworking business owner. Sometimes, you need to invest time, effort, and even money to ensure things are right for your customers. In the end, all those small acts of effort and kindness will pay off, leading to stronger relationships, new friendships, and ultimately, more sales. One other important lesson we’ve learned from running a business is that success comes when you’re honest and dedicated. It’s essential to love what you do and remain consistent. Over time, things will fall into place.”
