Home Care Assistance Sponsors the Stanford Center on Longevity’s Student Design Challenge
In line with its mission to change the way the world ages, Home Care Assistance supports the Stanford Center on Longevity’s new competition where students design products and services to improve the lives of older adults.
Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) September 27, 2013 - Home Care Assistance, North America's leading provider of in-home care, is dedicated to partnering with fellow leaders in the aging and longevity fields with a common goal of improving the quality of life of older adults. In line with this commitment to changing the way the world ages, the company is proud to be sponsoring the inaugural Stanford Center on Longevity Design Challenge, an annual competition aimed at challenging students to design solutions for key issues associated with aging. Launched Tuesday night at Stanford, the global challenge will last through the 2013-2014 academic year, with winners presenting their final designs in April of 2014.
“Home Care Assistance is proud to sponsor initiatives like the Stanford Center on Longevity's Design Challenge,” said Lily Sarafan, President of Home Care Assistance and Stanford alum. “Because our mission is to change the way the world ages, we could not be more excited to see so many new players eager to disrupt and expand the senior care space. Our latest spinoff, Dementia Therapeutics, is an in-home cognitive intervention program and is just one example of our internal focus on innovation and healthy longevity. That focus, coupled with our strong ties to Stanford, makes this a natural opportunity for our support and participation."
The Stanford Center on Longevity created the Design Challenge to engage the fresh ideas of students as they think about solutions to the challenges of our aging population. The annual Design Challenge aims to inspire practical solutions to common aging issues, increase awareness around the needs of our aging population among the younger generation, and provide promising designers with the tools they need to affect real change.
This year’s topic, which focuses on solutions that will keep individuals with cognitive impairment independent for as long as possible, was determined as a result of consensus among industry experts, academics and investors who pointed to dementia care as an area where new solutions could have the most impact. Since Home Care Assistance recently launched the Dementia Therapeutics Method, an innovative one-on-one cognitive activities program provided in the home, sponsoring this year’s challenge was an obvious fit. By mid-January, the judging panel will select five finalists who will then have until April to further develop their ideas and prepare a presentation to be given to industry experts, non-profit groups and investors.
