Jersey Mike's Subs Raises Funds For Geneva High School Boosters At Grand Opening

Owner Celebrates with Free Subs

June 07, 2010 // Franchising.com // Jersey Mike's Subs officially opened its first store in Geneva, which makes nine restaurants in the greater Chicago area. Jersey Mike's owner, Jim Shipman, knows the importance of community relations and celebrated his new ties with the area during his grand opening on June 2, 2010.

To commemorate the event, the new restaurant, located at 1770 S. Randall Road, hosted a 5-day fundraiser from Wed., June 2 through Sun., June 6, with proceeds supporting the Geneva High School All Sports Boosters. Anyone who had a fundraising coupon received a free regular size sub with a minimum $1 donation. More than 4,000 coupons were distributed throughout the community.

"We believe in supporting the development of students in our community," said Shipman. "Sports play an important role in the advancement and discipline of a child's education. We are eager to help champion the High School and Booster Club organizations."

Reaching out to the community is a key component of Jersey Mike's mission. All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well. "When you are an active contributor in the community it shows," said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike's founder and CEO. "Jim Shipman is committed to helping the students of Geneva High School. We congratulate him on his first store."

"Last year, I was intrigued when I went to a local Jersey Mike's to buy a sandwich and the line was out the door," said Shipman. "Then, I saw the faces of the customers watching as their subs were being made in front of them. I knew this was a concept that I had to make a part of my life. Having over 25 years of experience in the franchise fast food business, I recognized a winner when I saw it. I just love the quality and the uniqueness of the Jersey Mike's concept."
