Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation, which sells 100 percent organic Kona coffee, has announced alliances to sell more on the Mainland.
The farm, at 3,200 feet on Hualalai, the mountain above Kailua-Kona, has expanding deals with Costco and the Mainland retailer Maui Wowi Hawaiian, owner Trent Bateman said.
Costco introduced the family-owned brand to its Kona warehouse last year and now sells hundreds of pounds of Mountain Thunder premium beans weekly. Costco roasts Mountain Thunder beans on Oahu and sells them under the Kirkland brand throughout the state.
Maui Wowi Hawaiian will expand its own partnership in the coming year to include chocolate-covered macadamia nuts grown by Mountain Thunder and processed at a chocolate factory being built at 20-acre Kaloko plantation.
Mountain Thunder also has a Kona coffee ice cream made in conjunction with Meadow Gold Dairies using ultra-fine grind 100 percent Kona coffee.
