Raised in Japan by a family of restaurateurs, JINYA Ramen Bar Founder Tomonori Takahashi opened the first JINYA in Tokyo in 2000. After launching six successful restaurants in Japan, he brought his ramen expertise to the United States, opening JINYA Ramen Bar’s first U.S. location in 2010 in Studio City, California.
Tomonori Takahashi, who goes exclusively by Tomo, grew up in restaurants, his parents were restaurateurs in his native Japan. He traveled frequently to the U.S. and his dream was to open a restaurant in the Los Angeles area. He first opened a robata concept but quickly realized that ramen was one of the most popular menu items selling at his location. Tomo opened the first JINYA Ramen Bar in 2010 Studio City. The brand become so popular that customers would come in and ask how they could open their own JINYA Ramen Bar. Tomo and his team decided to franchise.
